"Dr. Turpin's coaching not only helped me to actually finish and submit my college applications to the best of my abilities, but he also helped me to rediscover myself and my academic interests in a meaningful way. In high school, I was the student who kind of slacked off and never cared too much about grades, so when it was time to apply to colleges, I was really nervous and had little hopes of getting into any of the schools I would want to attend. Dr. Turpin helped me realize that I actually wasn't a "bad" student and that even though I may not have taken a million AP classes and had scored pretty average on my SATs that my dream schools weren't actually out of reach; they just might not have been what I originally thought they were. I never would've even applied to SCAD if it wasn't for Dr. T, who saw my interests and matched me with schools that were good fits. Dr. Turpin's coaching helped me to gain confidence and place emphasis on being a well-rounded student instead of only focusing on my grades. He isn't like other college advisors. Chris Turpin was a Godsend for our family when our daughter, Ailey, was a junior in high school. At that point, she and I were both overwhelmed with the thought of the college process. Within two sessions with Dr. Turpin, he began to transform the experience from one of panic and worry (especially from my perspective as a parent), to one of preparation and excitement.
Dr. Turpin helped Ailey with absolutely everything. At the beginning, she had no idea what she wanted to study, where she wanted to live, how big a school she wanted to attend. I would imagine this to be true for many students so young, with so many options. He really helped her hone in and focus to determine a major, and continued to guide her with deciding the universities where best fit these areas of study. As we continued to approach the impending application deadlines, Dr. Turpin's work with Ailey was evidenced through both how prepared and relaxed she was during this time. From scholarship submissions to writing (and rewriting) essays to application submissions, he and Ailey handled it all with grace. The best part, our daughter loved working with him as much as we loved Dr. Turpin working with her. It was truly a win, win. Ailey is attending her first choice school with a very generous 4 year scholarship.
